Road development guidelines

These guidelines set out the requirements for third party developers when developments connect to Northern Territory Government road corridors.

Online Road Agency Approval System

The Road Agency Approval System is now live.

You can now submit applications for private development works within NT Government road reserves using the new online platform.

There is a 6‑month transition period, so you can apply either through the current email process or through the new online system.

How to apply online

Step 1. Open the online system

Step 2. Create your account

Set up your profile so your organisation and contact details are saved for future applications.

Step 3. Start a new application

Choose the type of road reserve development work you’re applying for and fill in the required details.

Step 4. Upload your documents

Attach plans, drawings, traffic management documents and any other required information.

Step 5. Submit your application

You’ll receive a confirmation and can track your application as it progresses.

Step 6. Monitor progress

Log in to see updates, respond to requests for more information and check assessment status.

What you can apply for

This online system is for applications related to:

  • private development works within NT Government road reserves
  • works that may affect NT Government‑managed roads or road assets
  • activities that need assessment under the development guidelines.

  • organisations undertaking works within or impacting NT Government road reserves.
