Commercial Passenger Transport Amendment Bill 2026

In February 2026, the Department of Logistics and Infrastructure introduced the Commercial Passenger (Road) Transport Amendment (Licensing) Bill 2026 to amend the Commercial Passenger (Road) Transport Act 1991.

This new Bill will come into effect 1 July 2026.

The amendment will extend the term of commercial passenger vehicle licence categories up to 3 years, with options of licence terms for up to 11 months, one year and 2 years.  Existing licence application and renewal time periods of 3 months to one year will be maintained for taxi, private hire car, limousine and minibus licences only.

Motor Omnibus (MO) and Tourist Vehicle (TV) categories are not affected with this change and will remain as a 36-month option.

See the commercial licence types and licence periods before and after the introduction of the Bill.
