Coolalinga road safety upgrades

The Northern Territory Government is undertaking detailed design for a long-term traffic management solution for Coolalinga.

This project has been underpinned by several rounds of community consultation, as well as technical investigations.

Objectives

These upgrades will serve as a long-term solution, addressing road safety, improving accessibility and allowing for future growth in the area.

The project will:

  • improve road safety for all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists by incorporating signalised pedestrian crossings at popular crossing points, and inclusion of footpaths
  • improve accessibility to and from both sides of the Highway by creating 2 new intersections which facilitate safe signalised access in all directions
  • support future planning and growth by ensuring that future roads and developments can easily connect to the road network.

Current status

  • Detailed design is underway.
  • To inform the 2025-26 Budget, the Northern Territory Government conducted a review of all capital works programmed projects which focused on managing budget constraints to rebuild the Territory economy and prioritising infrastructure that’s needed now.
  • Based on this review, this project has been re-prioritised with no present timeline for delivery.
  • The Northern Territory Government will consider re-prioritised work packages for future budgets.
