Royal Darwin Hospital 32 bed ward

The Northern Territory Government is building a new 32 bed modular ward at the Northern Territory’s main hospital campus, Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH).

The new ward will increase the number of beds available in the public hospital system.

The construction of the ward will see a large portion of the construction processing being conducted off site and then transported to site and installed. This will expedite the construction phase and reduce disruption to the public and staff.

The proposed ward will be designed and built in line with the Australasian Health Facility Guidelines (AusHFG) as a multipurpose ward with capability to serve bariatric, renal and general patients.

Construction will begin in 2024 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

Access to the Royal Darwin Hospital and Emergency department will be maintained at all times during construction.

Some parking at the Royal Darwin Hospital will be reduced during construction.

During construction, hospital staff, patients and visitors are asked to follow detours in place.

The department will provide regular project updates to stakeholders as the project progresses.
