Roystonea Avenue duplication
The Department of Logistics and Infrastructure (DLI) is duplicating Roystonea Avenue in Palmerston, from Terry Drive to Lambrick Avenue, starting in April 2025.
Roystonea Avenue is a key access road connecting Palmerston CBD to the suburbs.
The duplication will:
- improve road safety, traffic flow and drainage, particularly around the Inverway Circuit intersection
- address the currently unsignalised Roystonea Avenue and Inverway Circuit intersection, and peak hour delays and congestion
- cater for the future population growth expected in the area
- address seasonal localised flooding experienced on the road.
As part of the works, pedestrian crossings will also be added at the Inverway Circuit intersection.
During the project
Access to Inverway Circuit and Buscall Avenue from Roystonea Avenue will be restricted at times during the works, and detours will be in place.
Traffic management will include use of speed reductions and temporary lane closures to ensure the safe and efficient flow of traffic.
There may be some delays to traffic flow from time-to-time during the construction. Road users are encouraged to seek alternative routes where possible.
Motorists are asked to take caution during these works and comply with all traffic management and signage in place.
Current works
Buscall Avenue temporary closure
As part of the project, an upgraded intersection with dedicated turning lanes will be installed at the Buscall Avenue and Roystonea Avenue intersection.
To ensure the safety of construction crew and road users, Buscall Avenue will be temporarily closed between Roystonea Avenue and Lakeview Boulevard from 5 August 2026 for approximately 15 weeks (weather permitting).
Pedestrian access will be maintained while local traffic will need to detour along Terry Drive or Lambrick Avenue during this time.
Terry Drive changed access
As part of the changed traffic conditions, local traffic are permitted to turn left and right from Roystonea Avenue onto Terry Drive.
Vehicles are also able to turn left from Terry Drive onto Roystonea Avenue. There will be no right turn from Terry Drive onto Roystonea Avenue.
Inverway Circuit changed access
As part of the changed traffic conditions, vehicles will be permitted to turn left and right from Inverway Circuit onto Roystonea Avenue.
Vehicles are also able to turn left from Roystonea Avenue onto Inverway Circuit but there will be no right turn from Roystonea Avenue onto Inverway Circuit.
Project details
Work is expected to completed by December 2026, weather permitting.
