Santa Teresa Road - upgrade and seal
The Northern Territory Government is connecting the Territory by upgrading and sealing Santa Teresa Road.
The works form part of the $415 million Northern Territory Strategic Roads Package, jointly funded by the Australian Government and Northern Territory Government.
Currently subject to seasonal corrugations and flooding, the upgrades will:
- provide safer, more reliable all‑weather access
- improve connections for remote and Aboriginal communities
- improve access to health, education and community services
- support industry, tourism, freight and service delivery
- reduce travel times and vehicle operating costs.
The works are a continuation of efforts to create a fully sealed, all-weather route between Alice Springs and Santa Teresa (Ltyentye Apurte) community.
Current status
This package of works will upgrade and seal 22.54 km of the road beginning approximately 40 km from the Alice Springs Airport.
Design for the construction for this section has been completed.
Construction is anticipated to commence in late 2026.
