Schwarz Crescent and Stuart Highway intersection upgrades
The Northern Territory Government is improving road safety and connectivity in Alice Springs by upgrading the Schwarz Crescent and Stuart Highway intersection.
The upgrades will include the:
- realignment of the existing Schwarz Crescent further north to create a new 4-way, signalised intersection with the existing Smith Street/Stuart Highway intersection
- inclusion of safe pedestrian crossings in all directions at the new traffic lights
- closure of the existing section of Schwarz Crescent adjacent to the Stuart Highway.
The upgrades respond directly to community feedback and will deliver a safer, more efficient intersection for all road users, including students, local businesses and freight operators.
Road users will need to take caution during these works and comply with all traffic management and signage in place. Temporary lane closures and speed restrictions will apply that may cause minor delays.
Construction is expected to begin in February 2027 and be completed by mid-2027.
