Towards Zero Action Plan
The Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics has developed the Towards Zero Action Plan 2024-2028 to reduce road-related trauma, encourage a responsible road culture and motivate Territorians to be part of the solution to improve road safety.
The Towards Zero Action Plan 2024-2028 is a five year road safety action plan focusing on key priority areas of road safety for the Northern Territory.
The Towards Zero Action Plan 2024-2028 was developed in consultation with a range of stakeholders across the Territory, including Round Tables in Darwin and Alice Springs and public feedback on the Discussion Paper via the Have Your Say online engagement tool.
The Round Tables consisted of key stakeholders including Aboriginal representative groups and land councils, local government and NT Police.
The Towards Zero Action Plan 2024-2028 will work towards improving road safety in the NT over the next five years.
Over the past four decades, the annual average fatalities rate has decreased from 68.5 to 41.6. While this is good news, there is still work to be done. Over the last 10 years (2013-22) on average 40 people have lost their lives each year on NT roads.
Every Territorian deserves to be safe when using Territory roads.
Two Road Safety Round Tables were held to explore ideas and inform the development of a Discussion Paper, which provided the basis for the Towards Zero Action Plan 2024-2028.
The National Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan 2023-25 has guided the structure of the Territory’s next Towards Zero Action Plan.
