Darwin Region Water Supply Program

Published

The future of Darwin’s water security lies in a multi-source supply system.

To achieve this, the Department of Logistics and Infrastructure is delivering the Darwin Region Water Supply Program to:

  • improve water supply resilience
  • reduce vulnerability to climate change
  • enable economic growth
  • ensure safe and secure drinking water for generations to come.

With current sources operating at or above capacity, it’s vital that we act now. New infrastructure is essential to ensure water doesn’t become a barrier to social and economic growth in the Territory.

The detailed business case (2022) identified Manton Dam return to service (stage 1) and Adelaide River off-stream water storage (AROWS) project (stage 2) as the most cost-effective, economically viable solutions to support Darwin’s future.

Bringing together Darwin River Dam, Manton Dam, groundwater, and the proposed AROWS project could create an integrated system that doubles our water supply.

Collaboration, innovation, and smart planning will shape a sustainable water future for Darwin.
