Published

The $16.7 million STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) centre at Katherine High School has officially been completed, delivering a modern, purpose-built facility that will significantly enhance learning outcomes for students in the region.

This major infrastructure project involved upgrades to existing facilities and the construction of new learning spaces, providing contemporary, high-quality education infrastructure that meets the needs of students, teachers, and the wider school community.

Key features include:

  • Modern flexible classrooms
  • New art and music studios, including a tiered performance space
  • Hands-on, real-world learning environments designed to foster innovation and engagement.

As part of the Student Experience Initiative, local contractor M&J Builders engaged with students throughout the project, offering valuable exposure to the construction industry and helping them develop transferable, job-ready skills.

More than 50 local employees and subcontractors contributed to the delivery of this project, highlighting strong community involvement and support.

Students will begin using the new facilities from Term 3 of 2025, with the STEAM centre set to play a key role in delivering future-focused, curriculum-aligned education.

STEAM centres provide real-world, hands-on learning environments that prepare students for the jobs of the future, while supporting teachers to deliver innovative and engaging education.

Congratulations to all involved in the successful delivery of this important project.
