Free post-cyclone mulch for local gardens

Published

It’s time for Top End gardeners and green thumbs to freshen up their backyards and put trees toppled by Cyclone Fina to good use.

Free mulch will be available for collection at the Hidden Valley green waste site from 23 January to 8 February 2026, between 8 am and 5 pm daily (closed on Australia Day).

The mulch comes from 60,000 tonnes of green waste that was collected and temporarily stored at the site following the cyclone.

Residents of any local government area can bring any light vehicles such as utes, trailers or small rigid trucks which are roadworthy and maintained, to collect mulch for private use only.

A tarp is recommended to cover the load.

Access to the site is by vehicle only. A loader will be operating on site to load the mulch, but loading may halt if there are adverse weather conditions, until they improve.

Please take care and comply with all traffic management and signage in place.
