Stuart Highway increased speed limit trial
The Department of Logistics and Infrastructure (DLI) is trialling an increased speed limit of 130 km/h on sections of the Stuart Highway currently posted at 100 km/h, fronting both Hayes Creek and Wycliffe Well roadhouses.
These roadhouses have remained closed to the public for an extended period.
The trial speed will be in place from 15 September 2026 for 6 months.
At the end of the 6-month trial, DLI will review traffic counts, vehicle speeds, any road incidents and/or near misses to assess the effectiveness of the trial speed.
Using this data and other factors such as road conditions, sightlines, pedestrian activity and safety considerations, DLI will recommend an appropriate permanent speed limit for the road.
Road users are urged to comply with all speed limits and drive with care.
