Intelligent Transport System road safety trial
An Intelligent Transport System (ITS) road safety treatment will be installed at the intersection of Stuart Highway, Lagoon Road and Panquee Boulevard.
The trial ITS will extend approximately 200 m in either direction of the intersection along the Stuart Highway, and create a safer road environment for people and vehicles.
An ITS will detect pedestrians in real-time within a monitored zone in the traffic lanes, median, and verge. It will alert approaching drivers and riders through any or a combination of:
- lowering speed limits using electronic message signs
- digital warning signs
- increasing lighting intensity of streetlights.
Installation works will commence in October 2026, and the trial will run to late 2027.
