New online system for road reserve development approvals
The NT Government is committed to rebuilding the economy by cutting red tape and reducing approval times by 50%.
To support this, the Department of Logistics and Infrastructure is putting in place recommendations 2C and 10B from the Saying ‘Yes’ to Business report. These changes focus on creating a simpler, more streamlined road agency approval system.
A new Road Agency Approval System will go live on Wednesday 3 June 2026. It will replace the current manual process with a modern online platform, making it quicker and easier to apply for approvals for private development works on NT Government-managed road reserves.
Key improvements
Key improvements include:
- more consistent and efficient assessment processes
- improved documentation handling and review processes
- automated audit trails to strengthen accountability
- real‑time application tracking for better visibility and more reliable timeframes
- a significantly improved user experience for developers and consultants.
Applicants can choose to use either the current email process or the new online system during a 6 month transition period. After this time, all applications must be submitted online.
This reform will apply across the Territory and will:
- reduce administrative work for both applicants and government
- help projects move faster
- support the Territory’s reputation as a place that says ‘yes’ to business and investment.
